A 5 Rhythms workshop focussing on grounding the rhythm of Chaos. (Read more about the patterns and characteristics of the Rhythms here.) At the end of the day there'll be a fire by the lake.

The Friday evening session will prepare us for dancing deeper on the Saturday, you are also welcome to attend just the Friday or just the Saturday. You can sleep in the hall for free on the Friday night. (Kitchen & showers available but you need to bring a sleeping bag and camping mat).
Bring food (to share if you wish) for lunch.

'Grounding Our Glow'. By 'grounding', I am referring to the process of receiving, sensing and embodying our bright shining nature. For many, Summer is a time of high energy. Rather than letting it lead us into overwhelm and subsequent space-out, how do we ground this energy so that it can be enjoyed, lived & shared? We will dance deep, shedding layers and tensions that may be in the way of our receptivity to this divine glow. In the evening, following the workshop, we will gather together by the lake, in the presence of fire & in the spirit of abundance! I hope you can join us for this magical day.

This is a weekend to explore, through the 5 Rhythms, the natural processes of change, and how to be at home as we move with them

We’ll look at the ways each rhythm gives rise to the next
And find in the effortless cycle of their Wave our own way of dancing through life’s transitions.

Andrew has been teaching the 5 Rhythms for nearly twenty years. He studied extensively with Gabrielle Roth, and runs workshops in many countries. For twenty years he also worked as a theatre director, which combines the embodied aliveness of the dance with the transforming freedom of improvised theatre, has become one of the classic workshops of the 5 Rhythms programme. Andrew teaches with precise subtlety, imperceptibly guiding you deep, without fuss. His gentle compassion creates a safe space in which transformation can happen. He works with a light touch, and an embodied intelligence, bringing great delight to the spiritual practice he loves.

Spring into Summer!

Spring is here and as the light grows stronger the shadows can become more visible. In this workshop we will reveal and explore the shadow of the psyche by articulating it through movement. By embodying this territory we can begin to see where we remain stuck and learn to bring movement and life to stagnant energy. Having familiarised ourselves with the terrain, we will offer up the aspects of the self that no longer serve us, to the fire of purification and set intentions and directions for new growth.

We will dance in the beautiful Bassenthwaite Hall and end with a fire by the lake. It is recommended that this workshop is taken in conjunction with the previous evening's wave: however if this is not possible and you have already delved deeply into 5 Rhythms movement practice, you may be able to join us for the Saturday only. Please discuss this with us in advance.

Bring: food to share; comfortable clothes for dancing; warm, outer wear for the closing ceremony; your whole self; willingness to move and be moved.

We will dance a 5 Rhythms wave paying particular attention to our comfort zones and the places we find less easy and familiar. This evening will prepare us for the Saturday workshop on the shadow by heightening awareness of some habitual patterns, but can be a stand-alone class.

We’re in the season that the poet e e cummings called
“In Just-spring……
when the world is puddle-wonderful.”

We’ll be dancing in the Stillness of a world still partly winter-quiet and interior, with the first stirrings of growth and beginnings that we call Flowing, the Staccato of the first shoots pushing through to the light, the Chaos of sleet…snow…sunshine…wild winds… smirring rain; and the Lyrical of snowdrops, primroses, even early daffodils. We’ll be dancing in the Stillness of Still-winter, in Just-spring.

Here's a chance to dance in a new venue for us - in a good location for travellers, and we welcome Mark, a new 5Rythms teacher-in-training who's been working with Andrew Holmes and the international 5Rhythms movement. Mark will be offering two classes in Penrith. his approach is to keep things simple and down-to-earth. The theme of the first class will be "Ground" and the theme of the second class on 23rd March will be "Sky". These will be independent drop in classes and you can join for either or both.

I started dancing the Rhythms in 1999; love at first sight! The podgy child who had been put out of ballet class because she couldn't do the splits had at last found a place where she was allowed - encouraged, even - to dance! And her two left feet were given the freedom to do whatever they wanted to do - which was to dance her into a sense of freedom in her whole life.
